Pentwynmawr Athletic v Clydach Wasps

Back to cup action for the first team this weekend, as the travel to face Pentwynmawr in the next round of the Gwent Amateur Cup. The two sides have already met this season on the tight and tough pitch, with honours even after a 2-2 draw back in October. Due to the weather the hosts have not played since going down 3-1 at Undy three weeks ago, and currently sit third from bottom in the table, though they are always dangerous on their own ground. The Wasps lose Kris Lewis to suspension, meaning Marc Taylor may well step back up from the seconds, and should welcome back John Nash from a couple of weeks out, with the returning Karl Wedgebury also in contention for the squad should his registration go through in time.

Clydach Wasps A v Abergavenny Thursdays

The second team play host to the team they opened the season against. The Thursdays currently sit bottom but one of the division, but picked up a point against Blaenavon a week ago, though that may have been with the help of a few of their first team. The seconds will be bouyed by last weeks gutsy cup victory, though they will be without Simon Tippings through suspension following his red card last week. Hopes will be high of a victory to match the opening day result and put the pressure on our rivals at the top of the table.

Clydach Wasps B v Blaenavon Blues

The third team welcome First Division Blaenavon Blues to Llanelly Hill in the second round of the Open Cup. The side will be in good spirits following last weeks win against Usk, and have previous with the Blues in this cup; a hard fought penalty shoot out victory at Blaenavons Co-op Field two years ago featured most of the team that will take the field this Saturday (the shoot out should still be available on youtube, as long as you can live with Phil Odowda's dodgy camera work). The Blues drew with Abergavenny Thursdays last time out and currently sit fifth in their division, pushing our seconds close earlier in the year. A victory is not beyond the thirds, so it should make for an interesting game.
