The opening two Saturdays of the season saw vastly differing outcomes for the first team.

They opened up with a trip to the Aberdare Valley to take on Cwmaman Workmens Club in round one of the FAW Trophy. The hosts had the better of the ninety minutes, taking the lead early on before an equaliser from Connor Flook. Cwmaman retook the lead before half time, and it took until the last quarter of an hour for Jace Williams to fashion a second equaliser. Into extra time, it was our fitness and experience that told. Jordan Jones and Matthew Edward both found the net in the opening half, while Colin Evans and a second from Williams killed the game, before a late consolation from the dogged hosts. The second round draw sees us make another trip, this time to fellow GC division two side Lucas Cwmbran, to be played 3rd September.

With Cromwell Youth withdrawing from the league, their was an early bye in the first round of fixtures on Tuesday night, so the first league fixture saw recently relegated Pill visit the Rec. The Wasps couldn't have made a worse start, going two goals down within ten minutes. The visitors front two were in a clinical mood, punishing errors ruthlessly, with further mistakes in the second half also being converted into goals. Whilst we carved out a number of chances ourselves, our finishing left plenty to be desired. It was a lesson in finishing that will need to be learnt quickly with another tough fixture up next in Tuesday nights trip to Mathern.
