Abertillery Excelsiors v Clydach Wasps - Wed

The Wasps travel to the Woodlands for their first midweek game of the year after last weeks washout. The visitors will be looking to get back to winning ways after the last two weeks disappointing results and will hopefully see a more settled side taking to the pitch after the recent enforced changes. The Wasps took the three points last time they met after a 3-1 victory. The hosts currently sit ninth, but have not played for almost a fortnight, pic...

Chepstow Town v Clydach Wasps

The first team travel to Larkfield's to take on another of the teams looking to take the title. Chepstow currently sit in second place, four points shy of Treowen but having played two games more. That puts the hosts seven points ahead of us but we have four games in hand. Last week saw Town pick up a useful 3-0 victory at home to Blaenavon Blues and will be looking to not only put themselves in with a big shout for the league trophy but also a return to Welsh Lea...

Venture Community v Clydach Wasps

Only one game this weekend, and it's the biggest of the year so far. The Wasps head north to meet Wrexham's Venture Community in the FAW Trophy semi final at the home of Rhayader Town. It's a step into the unknown in terms of the opponents, though not the ground or this stage of the competition. This will be the third time Clydach have reached this round, and will be looking to make it third time lucky. Going into the game on the back of two impressive victori...

Clydach Wasps v Undy Athletic Club

After last weeks big victory, the first team will be looking to push on and put a run together to challenge at the top, starting this Saturday at home to Undy. With no injury problems reported it should be another strong line up that takes to the field against an improving Undy side. The visitors currently sit in sixth place in the league, and have scored 21 goals in their last five games, including putting four past Govilon and a 4-1 victory over Blaenavon l...

Treowen Stars v Clydach Wasps

The Wasps unbeaten league record this season faces it's toughest test so far on Saturday, as they take the trip to Bush Park to visit the league leaders and their 100% record. After missing out on a game last week the first team will be looking to close the gap on the host, and in doing so make Treowen drop their first points of the season. A full squad should travel and will be looking to carry on from the last time out. Stars are still in the hunt for a double, ...

Clydach Wasps v Pentwynmawr Athletic

After last weeks cup exploits it's back to league action with a home game for a change. The Wasps will be looking to carry the good form from last week into this game, and although losing John Nash from that squad, it should be pretty much same again. The visitors picked up three points last week with a 4-2 home victory over Blaenavon, and there has already been two close games between the sides this season; a 2-2 draw in the league, and the Wasps triumphin...

Llanharry v Clydach Wasps

The biggest game of the season so far has finally come around, as the Wasps find themselves in the FAW Trophy Quarter Finals. Of the teams that could have been drawn we certainly got the better of the away games possible, avoiding an even longer trip north. The visitors will have to pick up their performance from last weeks victory over Mardy, a game that saw plenty of character if little in the way of quality. Kris Lewis may return to the squad after suspension, whil...

Mardy v Clydach Wasps

This rearranged game has now been moved to an away game, allowing all three sides games to go ahead this Saturday. The Wasps travel to bottom of the table Mardy looking to play themselves into a bit of form before next weeks huge game. With match practise being in short supply recently, plus a match against opposition who belied their league position to oust us from the County Motors Cup early in the season, and are always up for this fairly local derby. Kris Lewis is sti...

Clydach Wasps v Blaenavon Blues

After last weeks last minute cancellation, hopefully this Saturday will finally see all three sides get into action. The first team host near neighbours Blaenavon Blues, and will be looking to get into a run of form before next months big cup tie. Kris Lewis is still yet to serve the final game of his suspension, while Matt Edward and Nick Francis should have shaken off the injuries they picked up at Sudbrook. The visitors have played twice this year, and ha...

Clydach Wasps v Albion Rovers

The recent weather has forced a change to the original schedule, as we welcome Albion Rovers to the Rec. After last weeks disappointment, a weeks training should see the team in better shape for what should be a tough ask, even though the visitor will be just as rusty after recent inactivity. Nick Francis and Matt Edward are injury doubts, while Kris Lewis sits out the last game of his suspension. The visitors have come close to returning to the Welsh League since...

Weekend Preview

Another week of awful weather means that it's unlikely to see three games again this week. The first team have the best chance of a run out as they try again with their Gwent Amateur Cup tie away to Sudbrook Cricket Club. The thaw is setting in, but the incoming rain could see the pitch then become water logged. The second team should be heading to the high ground and visiting Blaenavon Blues, though it is unlikely the Co-op Field will be playable. Similarly, our own field is highly unlikely ...

Normally at this time of the week, this would be a look ahead to the upcoming games this Saturday. The arctic conditions though make it exceedingly unlikely we will see any action again this week. The First team should be travelling to Sudbrook Cricket Club for their Gwent Amateur Cup clash. If any of our games are to go ahead this is the one that has the most chance, though even if the forecasted snow misses the ground, the dropping temperatures could see the pitch frozen. The Second and Thi...

Clydach Wasps v Spencer Youth

The first game of the new year is the return match of the first game of the year. The Wasps welcome bottom but one Spencer Youth to the Recreation Ground looking to pick up where they left off before the Christmas break. It won't be easy, with the extended break and the weather preventing training. Kristian Lewis is still serving his suspension, but it should otherwise be a full squad that will be looking to pick up three points with home advantage and struggling ...

Mardy v Clydach Wasps

The last weekend before Christmas and the first team travel to Mardy, looking for revenge for the County Motors Cup defeat earlier in the campaign. The two sides suffered differing fortunes in the Amateur Cup last weekend, the hosts being knocked out 3-0 by Blaeanvon Blues. The Wasps should be able to pick from the same squad that triumphed at Pentwynmawr and will be looking to end the year on a high, and hopefully close the gap on Treowen at the top of the league.

Pentwynmawr Athletic v Clydach Wasps

Back to cup action for the first team this weekend, as the travel to face Pentwynmawr in the next round of the Gwent Amateur Cup. The two sides have already met this season on the tight and tough pitch, with honours even after a 2-2 draw back in October. Due to the weather the hosts have not played since going down 3-1 at Undy three weeks ago, and currently sit third from bottom in the table, though they are always dangerous on their own ground. Clydach Wasps v Chepstow Town

After last weeks good performance in the cup it's back to league action for the first team, as they welcome Chepstow Town to the Rec. The Wasps welcome back John Nash back from illness, and Steve Davies after a long period unavailable to the side. The visitors currently sit fourth in the division, a point behind us but with a game in hand. Chepstow have not played in a month, their last match being their Amateur Cup victory over Nantyglo. Clydach Wasps V Hay St Mary's

After last weeks washout, we try again with the Fourth Round of the FAW Trophy. With it now being a fortnight since the last game it will need a big effort from the boys to put in a good performance and get the victory required over our Mid Wales visitors. Near neighbours Blaeanavon Blues also feaure in the Trophy this weekend, as they entertain Ton & Gelli. Hopefully the wind and rain will abait enough to see both Gwent sides progress.

Clydach Wasps v Hay St Mary's

The next round of the FAW Trophy sees a familiar face return to the Rec, as former Wasp Chris Baynton brings his Mid Wales League charges for an eagerly awaited game. After last weeks enforced break the firsts will be looking to carry on from the big victory over RTB's. There should be the same squad available for use, plus the probable return of midfielder Steve Davies. Hay have so far accounted for FC Brunswick, Nelson Cavaliers and Presteigne St Andrews on ...

RTB Ebbw Vale v Clydach Wasps (Gwent Amateur Cup)

The first team start their Amateur Cup campaign with a visit to Eugene Cross Park, to take on Second Division RTB. The team should pick itself following last weeks victory, but things are never that simple, especially when it comes to player availability. The hosts dropped down to Division Two at the end of last season, and have so far been struggling this season, and currently sit in the bottom half of the table. Last week they were on the wro...

The first team look to get back into the winning habit after last weeks disappointing draw. There will be a reshuffle in defence with Lee Brown missing for the forseeable future, while Nick Francis should return to bolster the forwards. Undy Athletic v Clydach Wasps

This Saturday the Wasps make the longest trip of the league season, as they visit The Causeway, Undy. After last weeks thumping home win, the team will be looking to take their good form back into the league, though they visit a ground we have had our troubles at in previous years. Alister Paton returns after missing last weeks match to take the squad back to full strength. Undy are usually a strong team at home and will no doubt put the visitors to the test.

The Third Round of the FAW Trophy brings some new faces to the Recreation Ground this Saturday, with the visit of Swansea Senior League side Maltsters Sports. Pentwynmawr Athletic v Clydach Wasps

After a week off the first team return to action with a trip to Pentwynmawr. After the player shortage of the Lliswerry game the squad will be back to full strength; Roddy Arnold, John Nash and Colin Evans amongst those back this week. The home side are a tough proposition on their own patch; the small, tight pitch leaves very little room for passing football, meaning games tend to become battles. This has seen them regularly take points from higher placed ...

Clydach Wasps A v Panteg

With no first team game this weekend, the player shortage of last weekend should not affect the club on Saturday. The second team will look to get back to winning ways with a home game against Panteg. The team has suffered a big blow as captain Kyle Cheshire becomes a long term injury victim, but hopefully will be able to raise themselves from last weeks defeat. The Wasps will be looking to make it a magnificent seven this Saturday as they entertain Lliswerry. It won't be easy, as a number of players being unavailable will make for a changed side. Kristian Lewis returns from injury, but the loss of Roddy Arnold, Colin Evans, Marc Taylor and others will test the squads resources. These are the types of weekends that test potential title candidates, and those remaining will be looking to pick up another three valuable point...

The Wasps will be bolstered by top scorer James Hapgoods return from suspension, while Kristian Lewis has been training this week and may be in contention for a squad place. This weekend sees the odd occurrance of a double header between one of our local rivals. The first team travel to the Co-op Field, just a few weeks before the Blues transfer to their new base on the outskirts of the town. The seconds picked up a good victory at the weekend over New Inn and will be looking to add to their points tally with the visit of Cwmffrwdoer to the Recreation Ground this wednesday.  For the first time this season the clubs three sides will be in action this saturday. The firsts travel to Mardy Fields for the first round of the County Motors Cup. Matches against Mardy are rarely easy, and with the added spice of a place in the next round of the cup up for grabs this game should be no different, regardless of league form. The Gwent Central League gets underway and it will see a much changed Second team start the defence of their First Division title at Penypound Stadium. After a summer of retirements and defections manager Giles Prosser will need to rebuild this term with a number of players looking to step up and show they are ready to take a step up in the club. Things don't get much easier this Wednesday as the firsts take their unbeaten record to Kimberley Park, Malpas, to take on last seasons runners up, Albion Rovers. Spirits will be high following the good result in the weekends derby victory over Govilon, while Albion also boast an unbeaten start to the season. Match Preview - Clydach Wasps v Spencer Youth

Posted by Gareth Weed on Monday, August 17, 2009, In : Match Previews
First league game of the season sees the First team travel to Ringland Park, never an easy ground to visit. Last season was a tough one for the hosts with a 12th place finish and survival in the division only confirmed in the final few weeks of the season. The resulting fixture last season saw us return home with the three points, and although it's been a mixed pre-season hopes will be high of a repeat performance with a largely full squad.
